Sydney Ruston, B.Kin (she/her)
My love for health and fitness began in early adolescence when I started exercising on my own. Having done a lot of off-ice training for figure skating I had a good base knowledge but was always striving to learn more. In high school I gravitated towards biology and health related fields, and always had a personal interest in women's health to learn more about my own body. By the end of high school I knew Kinesiology was the path I wanted to take so that I could help people improve their health, however, I didn’t know what the end game was. Throughout my undergrad I explored many different paths; I worked in research, in high performance sport, physiology labs, and in the gym with elderly clients. It was only until the end of my degree that I found my love for the strength and conditioning world and witnessed how big of an impact it can make.
Once I started working as a Kinesioloigst and working with Warrior Physiotherapy I found myself gravitating towards women's health more and more. Showing women how capable and strong they really are makes everything I do worth it. Ashley provided me with the opportunity to start working with prenatal and postpartum clients and since then I have fallen in love with this work. This was the birth of our postpartum group classes. Working with mom’s and mom’s-to-be, my aim is to not only make you stronger, ward off aches and pains, and make your day to day life feel a tiny bit easier, but to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all. A place to show up as you are and connect with others going through the same thing.
Outside of work I am often hanging out with my dog Nyla (you will probably see her at the clinic), hiking, training, playing volleyball or trying out different sports. Being active is my way of relaxing but when I’m not moving I love to read, watch TV or do paint by numbers! You can usually catch me checking out different coffee shops and often (maybe too often) getting ice cream!
Being a part of this amazing clinic and group of women fills me with so much joy. I always joke with clients that I see them more than I see my own friends and family but I am grateful to have built friendships with many of my clients to the point where it doesn’t feel like work. I look forward to being a part of your journey!
