My journey to become a physiotherapist began way back in high school. I started working as a student trainer and it was always the subject I could not learn enough about. Fast forward a few decades, and that thirst for knowledge has not left me; there is always more to learn in our field and I love bringing new ideas, techniques and strategies to my clients and the clinic.
I began working in a busy sports medicine clinic in Ottawa when I graduated from PT school, and I have worked in orthopaedic clinics ever since. I enjoy treating musculoskeletal conditions; from neck and shoulder issues, to lower back pain and foot problems. One of the things I love most about being a physio is that your day is always different, each client has their own story and challenges.
I honestly never thought I would be a pelvic health physiotherapist; I literally said “super important but not my jam”. Fast forward to 2016, I took a one day course in pelvic health physiotherapy for orthopaedic practitioners and my career path changed. I realized that by not treating the pelvic floor I was often missing a huge piece of the puzzle, particularly for chronic low back and pelvic pain. How can I prescribe core exercises without acknowledging issues that are going on in the pelvic floor? I also realized that as a society we are often ignoring these women’s health issues…and I was part of that narrative. Since then, I have worked to become a more inclusive practitioner, treating the whole person (including the pelvic floor!).
I love working with pregnant and postpartum clients; there is so much to be done in terms of education and movement to help women through this experience. I also believe strongly that we are meant to do life in community and with support - which is how our classes were born.
Outside of work, I love to be in the mountains. I am usually found hiking, camping or paddling with dog Lenny on the weekends. If I love to bake, catch up with friends and check out some of our great local breweries.
I started Warrior Physiotherapy in 2020 as a solo practitioner, since then we have grown as a team and as a clinic. I have been blessed with amazing mentors along my career that have helped shape me into the physio that I am today; this remains an important value in our team. We meet monthly to discuss new techniques, research, and round on tough cases. I am so proud of the Warrior Physiotherapy team, it is an amazing group of practitioners and I feel honored to create a space where we can show up for our clients every day
